Casting Out Demons

Luke 4:35 "But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet and come out of him!"

Jesus journeyed to another city to preach the Gospel. When He arrived he found a synagogue to preach at. When He began to preach the people there were astonished at His teaching because it had authority. While teaching there was a man there filled with a demon who just didn't want to be released, but Jesus had other plans.
Jesus doesn't want His people to be tortured and bound. When people are filled with some sort of demon they are held in bondage. Our human nature makes us think that when people are filled with a demon those people are deformed and look unnatural. But, the truth is demons can fill us to torture us ways such as with an addiction or any sin. People with demons can blend in to look like everyone else in the crowd.
It doesn't have to be that way though. We have the Power of the Holy Spirit to be cleansed from any sin or demon that tortures us. We just need to pray to that it would be taken away. When we ask for cleansing Jesus just says, "Be quiet and come out!" Our human nature may want to go back to that sin because of temptation, but remember that you were cleansed in the name of Jesus Christ. He has called us into the family of God to be free!

Prayer: Lord, it is our prayer that You would help us to overcome the things in our lives that slow us down in doing Your will. Fill us with the Holy Spirit and keep us from temptation.
